Electric Hawk:

Powerhouse drummer Noah Leger (Disappears), Mike Burns (guitar) and Graham McLachlan (bass), put their mutual love of Iron Maiden to work and formed the instrumental trio Electric Hawk. Often described as math-metal because of their complicated, intelligent arrangements, the Chicago Reader calls says they play “music for shredders by shredders.”

Fire and smoke streaming across open water as the ship begins to sink into the sea. Nobody can say which particular act of negligence was the beginning, but as the waves crash against live cinder its conclusive that the end is near. Disaster floating beneath a still dusk. Only the gulls and barnacles will survive.

Chicago’s six-piece, experimental ensemble BLOODIEST are back with their second full-length of ritualistically heavy orchestrations. The self-titled new album takes the distinctive genre-bending, wall-of-sound the band forged on Descent to an entirely new level. Droning melodies, earth-shaking riffs, and trance-inducing atmosphere sounds wrap around one another in a tight, cohesive package. Produced by the band’s own Tony Lazzara and Sanford Parker (YOB, Minsk) and led by the distinctive wail of frontman Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Corrections House), BLOODIEST have further established themselves as an inimitable force both in and beyond heavy music. As cinematic and cathartic as it is crushing and cruel, Bloodiest is one of the most dynamic and rewarding works modern, forward-thinking music has seen in years.

“Musically they summon the same kind of apocalyptic, black-hole heaviness as bands like Sleep, Neurosis, Mastodon, and Slayer” -Chicago Reader
Sweet Cobra:
The dedication of its members and the band’s storied lineage has helped make SWEET COBRA a household name to fans of bold rock and post-hardcore internationally, and a staple within the bustling music scene of their hometown of Chicago. Founded in 2003 by former members of a wide array of notable underground acts and boasting the fury and angular qualities of their hardcore/noise-rock/metal roots with a more straightforward rock rhythm and delivery, the band came into existence and toured alongside the likes of Pelican, Russian Circles, Coliseum, Black Cobra, Doomriders, The Life And Times, Young Widows and many more. SWEET COBRA toured regularly throughout the first decade of the 2000s, and released a crushing load of recorded material, including three LPs — 2004′s Praise through Seventh Rule Recordings, 2007′s Forever through Hawthorne Street Records, and 2010′s Mercy on Blackmarket Activities — as well as split releases with Doomriders, Get Rad, and Young Widows among other releases.
“For over ten years, Sweet Cobra have been a cornerstone in Chicago’s heavy music scene. And for that decade, they’ve mercilessly pounded on their pawnshop gear around the Midwest, working with an earnest determination based not on some faulty notion of “making it”, but with the goal of being the tightest, gnarliest, catchiest punk band possible.”-Noisey
